Miguel Uribe Turbay's father's moving message: "I assure you that we will face the darkness."

During the vigil held this Sunday at the Santa Fe Foundation, where Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay remains hospitalized following the attack he suffered a week ago, his father, Miguel Uribe Londoño, shared a moving message in front of dozens of people who gathered after the closing of the so-called "March of Silence."
“Thirty-four years ago, the war took my wife, Diana Turbay. I had to tell our son, who was barely four years old, that his mother had been murdered. Three decades later, the violence has returned, and Miguel Uribe Turbay is fighting for his life. That same boy became a good man, a loving husband, an exemplary father, and an honest and courageous leader,” Uribe Londoño said at the beginning of his speech.

In the message, delivered alongside María Claudia Tarazona, the congressman's wife, he called on everyone not to give in to violence and to persist in the goal of building a safe Colombia. "Miguel, my son, I admire you with all my strength. I attest that you have dedicated all your years of public service to Colombia with one goal: a safe country free from violence," he said.
And he added: " Your cause is security, so that we can build a Colombia of peace for all Colombians. Today, your struggle is more relevant than ever, and I assure you that we will confront the darkness."
Uribe Londoño added that the fight for security is not only his son's cause, but also a duty of Colombians to honor the victims and members of the Public Force who fell in the line of duty.

"That fight must be for all the children of their parents, members of our Armed Forces and Police who gave their lives to protect us. Because all of us who are parents in this country should have the right to enjoy our children, and all children should have the right to enjoy their parents," he added.
Finally, he noted that his family is waiting for him at home and asked those present to pray for his son's health. "Miguel, your son is waiting for you at home to give you a hug. Your wife needs you to continue loving and caring for you. Keep fighting so you can see him grow and follow your example," he concluded.
The congressman's father's message adds to the wave of solidarity that swept the country this Sunday. The demonstrations brought together thousands of people in 33 cities to reject political violence and demand life and democracy in Colombia.
"I want to thank those who participated in the massive mobilizations. Today there is no room for resentment in my heart, only the deep hope of being reunited with my husband Miguel," María Claudia Tarazona, the congressman's wife, said in a statement at the close of the day.
